Teachers in the Fife School District opted not to participate in the one-day walkouts happening in 65 school districts statewide.
Instead, they will organize an informational march after school Wednesday. The march will take place from 4-6 p.m., beginning at Fife’s Dacca Park and continuing on 54th Avenue East between 20th Street East and Valley Avenue.
Kirk Dodge, president of the Fife Education Association, said teachers are inviting members, district officials and community members to join them.
He said his members support teachers in other districts who are engaging in one-day strikes, but they believe that including more of the community in a protest will send a stronger message to the Legislature. Teachers around the state have been protesting legislative inaction on school funding.
Fife Superintendent Kevin Alfano said the district wants to support Fife teachers.
“Our School Board joins me and all of district administration in overwhelming support for all stakeholders of the Fife School District to rally together for this event,” Alfano said in a news release.
