Joint Base Lewis-McChord is opening its gates to the public this weekend for its annual Armed Forces Day celebration, an event that pairs military-themed presentations with entertainment for families.
The festivities will include a carnival, and kid-friendly performances and exhibitions showing both modern and historical military equipment. A rugby game pitting soldiers against sailors is scheduled to begin about 10 a.m.
Civilians are asked to enter the base through JBLM’s DuPont Gate at Exit 119 on Interstate 5. The gate will open to civilians at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
Visitors should expect some delays entering the base because of security checks, JBLM officials said in a news release.
