The death of a man hit Monday night by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train in Steilacoom was ruled a suicide, the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office said Wednesday.

A Burlington Northern Santa Fe train hit and killed a 42-year-old man just before 8 p.m. tonight in Steilacoom, according to West Pierce Fire and Rescue.

A woman suffered minor injuries at the Sunnyside Beach pedestrian crossing about 4:45 p.m. in Steilacoom, and was treated and released at the scene, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Spokesman Gus  Melonas said. He said the train was reported to be traveling about 6 miles per hour.

Kindergarten registration for the Steilacoom School District is set for March 25-29 at the district offices, 510/511 Chambers St. Registrations are done by appointment. Families must complete a packet in advance and provide a copy of the child’s birth certificate, a list of immunizations and proof of residence.
