The University of Puget Sound is getting $525,000 from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to enhance its environmental studies program and fund a new faculty position in international environmental studies.
UPS spokeswoman Melissa Rohlfs said Wednesday that the money will be used to establish a tenure-track professorship, expand research and help pay for workshops and conferences on subjects such as biodiversity, energy production, international pollution and global warming.
The university offers an interdisciplinary minor in environmental studies.
UPS has received nine grants from the Mellon Foundation since 1993, Rohlfs said.
