Sheriff’s and Fire Department investigators found knives, clubs, and parts of semiautomatic handguns in the ruins of the South Hill house where Zane Dittman was killed late Monday.
Dittman, 25, was killed when a duffel bag full of explosives detonated and destroyed the second story off the house, in which he rented a room. No one else was injured.
Investigators returned to the scene Thursday to make sure there was nothing left that could endanger cleanup crews, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said Thursday.
In addition to finding the weapons, “we have received information that he may have bought a bulletproof vest over the weekend,” Troyer said.
“We are looking into how he may have obtained it,” Troyer said.
“Putting all that together, it looks like (Dittman) was hell-bent on going out and doing some serious harm to somebody,” Troyer said.
“He had plenty of ammo,” he said.
