Tacoma police were searching for a man suspected in a takeover-style robbery of the U.S. Bank branch at James Center on Tuesday morning.
The bandit walked into the bank, 6723 S. 19th St., just before 9:30 a.m. He had his hand wrapped in a black garbage bag and implied he had a weapon, Tacoma police reported. He also had his face covered with a bandanna.
He threatened the employees and ordered them to the floor, police reported. He demanded cash, put the money in a bag, then ran away.
Officers responded to the scene and searched the area for the bandit. No arrests have been reported.
The robber was described as a light-skinned black man and 20 to 30 years old. He had a slender build. During the robbery, he wore a black hooded jacket, black pants, white gloves and a white bandanna covering his nose and his mouth.
Tacoma police released the surveillance photos of the robbery suspect. The man’s description does not match any other bank robbers that have struck in the city, Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.
