Posted on our Lights & Sirens blog at 8:19 a.m. Monday The gas card giveaway launched last week by Tacoma-Pierce County Crime Stoppers is enjoying some early success.
The campaign, in which tipsters who turn in one of Pierce County’s 50 most wanted sex offenders, gangsters, domestic violence violators and other criminals are eligible for a $250 gas card along with up to $1,000 cash – was launched Friday.
Within hours, two of the 50 people were booked into Pierce County Jail.
Investigators also have discovered that a third man – George E. Trupp, wanted for indecent liberties – was killed in a plane crash.
They’ve received tips indicating another two people have moved out of state. Investigators notified law enforcement officers in those states.
And the tips continue to come in.
“We are getting a lot of calls,” said Ed Troyer, executive director of Tacoma-Pierce County Crime Stoppers. “People are engaged in it.”
Tips led to the arrests Friday of Alberto Molinari Jr. and Tyler McCoy.
Molinari, 22, was wanted on suspicion of domestic violence-related charges. He was booked into the jail just after 10:30 a.m. Friday.
McCoy, 27, was wanted on multiple counts of first-degree identity theft. He was booked into the jail shortly after 5:30 p.m. Friday.
Crime Stoppers is offering a $250 gas card and up to $1,000 for information leading to the capture of the remaining 45 men and women.
