THE NEWS TRIBUNE
Published: August 13th, 2008 01:00 AM
A team of five teenage girls will serve as crew members aboard the Coast Guard tall ship Eagle starting Sunday in San Pedro, Calif. The vessel will travel to San Diego’s tall ships festival, arriving Aug. 20.

The five girls were among 47 Youth on Board crew members on the Adventuress, the Mycia and the Zodiac as they sailed from Victoria, B.C., to Tall Ships Tacoma last month.

They became eligible for the opportunity with the Coast Guard through an application process and evaluations from their ship’s captain.

The girls are: Meagan Southworth, 17, of Tacoma; Sydney Lynden, 17, of Lakewood; Kristie Spadoni, 17, of Gig Harbor; Jayna Gilley, 18, of Bellevue; and Elizabeth Ross, 16, of Port Angeles.
