Pierce County prosecutors on Friday charged a fifth person in connection with the fatal robbery of armored car guard Kurt Husted.
Husted, 39, was killed Tuesday during a robbery at the Lakewood Wal-Mart.
Brittney Marie Maas-Baines, 18, pleaded not guilty to charges of rendering criminal assistance and obstructing a police officer.
Lakewood police believe she helped her boyfriend, Marshawn Turpin, 20, with “transportation after the murder and lied to police about her involvement when first interviewed,” police Lt. Heidi Hoffman said Friday.
Turpin is charged with aggravated first-degree murder in Husted’s death. Prosecutors believe he grabbed money from Husted after another robber shot the guard.
Maas-Baines has denied knowing her boyfriend was involved in the fatal attack, according to court documents.
Turpin has pleaded not guilty to charges, as have Calvin Finley, 34; Tonie Marie Williams-Irby, 42; and Odies D. Walker, 41.
Superior Court Judge Frederick Fleming ordered Maas-Baines jailed in lieu of $1 million bail at the request of deputy prosecutor Mark Lindquist, who said he was concerned Maas-Baines might further try to hinder the investigation if released from jail.
