CommentsQuestion: Marvin Stewart of Yelm, a former Lakewood resident, wants to know the status of widening 176th Street from Pacific Avenue to Canyon Road.
Answer: There is no timetable for widening most of that stretch of 176th.
Pierce County plans to widen it from two lanes to five lanes. But it doesn’t have the money to do most of the work.
The county has broken the work into several segments:
• 176th from B Street to 14th Avenue: no timetable for construction at this time.
• 176th from 14th Avenue to Waller Road: no timetable for construction at this time.
• 176th from Waller Road to 51st Avenue: Construction is scheduled to begin in 2011.
• 176th (Bridge No. 36193-A): This is a bridge over the railroad tracks on 176th just west of Canyon. There is no timetable for construction at this time.
As you can see, the only segment scheduled for construction is from Waller to 51st. That could change if the county finds money for the project.
