A 21-year-old Spanaway man died Saturday night while swimming with his brother and a friend in Puget Sound near DuPont.
The trio was trying to swim from a sandbar at Solo Point to an abandoned boat when the tide pulled Logan Ernsbarger away, Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said Monday.
The other two called for help just after 9 p.m. and the Sheriff’s Department sent out a boat and divers. DuPont Fire and the U.S. Coast Guard also responded.
Searchers looked into the early morning hours but could not find Ernsbarger. His body was found and recovered the next day.
The determination of what killed Ernsbarger was pending further investigation, the Medical Examiner’s Office said Monday.
