EDUCATION: Volunteering in schools rewarding for parents, grandparents

Schools are in need of volunteers. It’s one of the most rewarding jobs in our society to help a little person read better, do math better and learn how to use a computer for the first time.

Most people think of a volunteer as one of the school kid’s mothers or sometimes fathers, more fathers are helping out. I see them on field trips with their child as well as helping in the classroom. What that means to a child is unimaginable.

Grandmothers and grandfathers make good volunteers also. I am a volunteer in my granddaughter’s second-grade room this year. I have volunteered for her first grade as well as her kindergarten classes. It is extremely rewarding.
