Masked man robs University Place bank

University Place sheriff's deputies and Tacoma police officers are searching for a masked man who reportedly robbed a University Place bank branch this morning.

University Place deputies were searching for a man who robbed a bank branch near Tacoma Community College on Thursday morning.

They believe the bandit is the same man who robbed the same branch last month. Each time, the robber wore a Halloween-style hockey mask.

Thursday’s bank robbery occurred about 10:20 a.m. at Chase Bank, 6916 19th St. W. The bandit walked in wearing the hockey mask, demanded cash from a teller and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

Pierce County sheriff’s investigators have released a new surveillance image of a man who robbed a University Place bank Oct. 15.

The image is from surveillance cameras of a neighboring business. The robber, who wore a hockey-style mask during the robbery of the Chase Bank at 6916 19th St. W., had removed the mask, so his face is visible.

The robbery occurred about 10 a.m. The bandit donned the mask outside of the bank, then walked inside, deputies reported. He took an undisclosed amount of cash. No weapon was seen or implied, deputies reported.

UNIVERSITY PLACE: Washington Mutual robber left bike at scene, police say

University Place sheriff’s deputies were searching Thursday for a bank robber who rode up to the Washington Mutual branch on a bicycle.

The robbery occurred about 10:20 a.m. at the branch at 6916 19th St. W., sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said. The robber, wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a bandanna, came to the branch on a bike and fled on foot.

After the robbery, he shed some of his clothing and disappeared into an apartment complex just west of the bank, Troyer said. A police dog and a Washington State Patrol airplane looked for the robber without success.

Pierce County: Guard at bank, then red dye foil two attempted robberies

A bank robber went 0-2 in separate holdups Monday and ended up with a snoot full of red dye to boot.

He’s also suspected in a third robbery at one of the same banks less than two weeks ago.

His first attempt Monday was about 9:40 a.m. at a Chase Bank branch at 6916 19th St. W. in University Place, said Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer.
