A curling iron left on near flammable materials ignited a blaze that damaged a Hilltop home Thursday.
Tacoma firefighters were called to the home in the 2300 block of South L Street just after 6 a.m. They found heavy smoke and flames coming from the back of the house on the second floor, spokesman Joe Meinecke said.
The two adults and four children got out of the house without injury. No firefighters were injured either, Meinecke said. The blaze was contained to the upstairs of the home. After most of the fire was out, crews used a thermal imaging camera to check behind the walls for hidden flames.
Investigators determined the blaze caused $75,000 damage to the home and its contents.
