Washington State Patrol troopers arrested 257 suspected drunken drivers over the New Year's weekend.

Troopers in King County geared up for Super Bowl drivers

Extra Washington State Patrol troopers will be on the highways in King County today for the Super Bowl.

The 22 additional troopers will look be looking for drunken drivers, speeders and aggressive drivers.

“Last year, troopers apprehended 34 DUIs, and we were happy to report that there were no fatality collisions on King County highways during Super Bowl weekend,” Capt. Steve Burns said. “We are hoping for the same outcome this year.”

Teen killed in crash near Millersvania State Park

A 17-year-old boy from Tenino was killed in a collision near Millersvania State Park in Thurston County, south of Olympia.

The Washington State Patrol says his car drifted off Highway 121 Sunday near the entrance to the park, overcorrected and was hit by an oncoming car.

Troopers say the other driver was not injured but was checked at an Olympia hospital as a precaution.

Teen driver calls 911 to say she's drunk

A teenage driver called 911 early Monday to report that she was drunk.

The 19-year-old girl told dispatchers that she was underage, very drunk and stopped on the shoulder of Highway 167. She wanted police to pick her up and take her to a hospital, the Washington State Patrol said Thursday. She was picked up and arrested on suspicion of physical control of a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

“While (the driver) did the right thing by pulling over when she began to lose her vision, the WSP has zero tolerance for driving under the influence and highly encourages the use of designated drivers,” trooper Dan McDonald said in a news release.

Two die in South Sound car crashes over holiday

Four people were killed in traffic accidents – including one in Pierce County and one in Thurston County – over the extended Memorial Day weekend, the Washington State Patrol reported Tuesday.

The number of traffic deaths was up one from 2008, when three traffic fatalities were investigated. Another two people died in non-traffic-related incidents this year.

In Pierce County, 33-year-old Anthony T. McDonald was killed Sunday when his Jeep left the road and overturned in Parkland.
