A man was killed and a woman was injured Monday morning after a three-car head-on crash on River Road in Puyallup, police said.
The crash happened about 8:35 a.m. in the 1500 block of River Road (state Route 167).
The man, a Puyallup-area resident in his late 50s, was driving his car eastbound when he drifted into the turn lane and sideswiped a stationary car, Puyallup police Assistant Chief Dave McDonald said Monday afternoon. That sent the man's car into the westbound lanes, where it collided with a minivan going the opposite direction.
The man was extricated from his car and transported to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma where he died, McDonald said.
The woman driving the minivan was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, McDonald said. The person in the sideswiped car was uninjured.
River Road was closed from 15th Street Northwest to 18th Street Northwest until 2 p.m.
