A half-mile section of 72nd Street East in the Waller area will be closed this weekend while crews install pipes under the road for a new storm water filter vault.
The vault is intended to catch storm water runoff contaminants from animal waste, vehicle leaks and fertilizers before it reaches Rody Creek.
From 7 a.m. Saturday to 7 p.m. Sunday, 72nd Street East between Canyon Road East and 66th Avenue East will be closed.
Drivers will be detoured onto Canyon Road East and Pioneer Way East.
Never miss a local story.
Lane restrictions will continue until April 15, so expect delays, officials said.
On weekdays, two of the four lanes will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Three lanes will be available after that.
The $425,000 project is mostly funded by the state Department of Ecology ($318,715), with $106,250 coming from Pierce County surface water management fees.
