A Stryker brigade soldier based at Fort Lewis died Monday, five months after he was critically wounded when a bomb exploded near his vehicle.

Spc. Kevin Mowl was wounded in August, the Rochester, N.Y., Democrat and Chronicle reported online.

According to a Web site dedicated to Mowl, the soldier’s father, Harold Mowl, wrote: “I want to let you all know that Kevin passed away peacefully today at 10:13 a.m.”

Mowl wrote that he, his wife, Mary, and daughter Carlene “were with him until his end.” Mowl, 22, suffered a brain injury and numerous fractures, according to family members.

He had been receiving treatment at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., the Democrat and Chronicle reported.

Mowl attended Pittsford, N.Y., schools through 11th grade and graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy near Philadephia.

He had been with the Army as an infantryman, serving in Iraq for a year before he was wounded, the paper said. He was a member of Alpha Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment with the 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team.
