PORT ANGELES, Clallam County – Bail of $5,000 has been posted for a Colorado Marine arrested in Port Angeles on desertion and contempt of court charges.
A judge has said he expects the Marines to take 23-year-old Lance Hering into custody when he’s released. It wasn’t immediately clear when that might happen. Port Angeles attorney Karen Unger said Hering’s bail was posted Thursday. It wasn’t clear who put up the money.
Hering was reported missing in August 2006. A friend said Hering had wandered off after he was injured in a rock-climbing accident near Boulder, Colo. After a massive search, authorities concluded the report was a hoax.
Port Angeles police arrested Hering Sunday after a tip from the Boulder County sheriff. He was with his father, Lloyd Hering, who was arrested for investigation of aiding and abetting.
