Residents and property owners in flood-prone parts of Pierce County are invited to attend a pair of open houses this month to see updated flood maps and ask questions of experts.
The maps haven’t been updated since the 1980s. These updates are scheduled to go into effect late next year. Government officials use them to set development standards, while insurance companies use them to set flood insurance rates.
The open houses are set for 5:30-7:30 p.m. on the following dates:
The forums are hosted by Pierce County, FEMA, and the cities of Fife and Orting. Property-specific maps will be made available upon request.
