Construction this week on the new Tacoma Narrows bridge:
Look for crews to continue stringing the cables that will hold up the bridge deck.
Last week, they finished spinning the first of 19 strands that ultimately will make up a single cable on the south side of the bridge. Each strand is composed of a bundle of 464 wires.
Tens of thousands of miles of such wires eventually will be used in building the suspension system.
Also this week, workers will put the finishing touches on War Memorial Park, spread compost and topsoil on the site of the old batch plant, continue retrofitting the existing bridge and pour more concrete walls on the existing east anchorage.
