Construction this week on the new Tacoma Narrows bridge:
Crews will continue to work on the catwalks, the temporary construction walkways workers will use to string the bridge’s main suspension cables. Once the catwalks are in place –possibly by the end of the week – workers will begin spinning suspension cables between the main towers.
Elsewhere on the project, crews will be excavating a retention pond near the west end of the bridge and planting landscaping along Highway 16 between 36th Street Northwest and the toll administration building.
Erosion control projects will be on-going across the project, too.
On the Tacoma side, crews will be installing irrigation equipment, planting plants and building a shelter at Living War Memorial Park.
They also will be pouring a retaining wall inside the existing east anchorage as part of a seismic retrofit.
