Question: At least a couple of Traffic Q&A readers have wondered about a new radar enforced speed camera that’s appeared on Bay Street in Tacoma, between River Road and Interstate 5. They want to know when the device will be turned on, what speed will trigger a ticket and how enforcement will work.

Question: Rex Lortz of Tacoma recently contacted our Reader Representative’s desk pointing out a chronic problem with the automated Good To Go tolling system on the Narrows bridge. Occasionally, he uses his pickup truck to tow his boat on a one-axle trailer across the bridge. But he gets charged for four axles instead of three axles every time he crosses that bridge. He’s tired of calling them and getting them to take $1.35 off his toll charges. He’s wondering why they can’t put a note on his account so this won’t happen again.

traffic q&a Question: Kurt Morrison of Tacoma has a perennial complaint that pops up frequently during campaign season: “Political signs on state highway rights of way are not permitted, but it does not seem to stop the pollution or the driving hazard. Who is responsible for the removal and who do you contact?”

Question: Larry Bucklin of University Place is concerned about illumination on Interstate 5. “It seems that for the last year or so most of the overhead lights on the off ramp from southbound I-5 onto SR 16 have been inoperable,” he writes. “This is particularly dangerous as traffic must reduce speed from 60 mph to a recommended 35 mph for a tight right hand curve. Who is responsible for this lighting and is there a reason it has not been maintained and is not operational?”

Question: Reader David Breneman of Rosedale has a question about the new Stone Drive tunnel under the runway approach at the Tacoma Narrows Airport. He’s noticed a car regularly parked at the westbound entrance to the tunnel.

This week, we follow up on a recent column about vehicle activated traffic signals. Dave Wheeler, a bicycle rider from Gig Harbor, wrote in expressing frustration that sensors under the pavement at some lights weren’t sensitive enough to detect his bike. Bicycle advocates suggested reporting problem intersections to the jurisdictions in charge of them.

Judging by our reader (e-)mail bag, few nuances of traffic law confuse drivers as much as school zones and bus stops. So with most schools starting up this week, we’re devoting an extended column to some of the frequently asked questions on the subject.

traffic q&a Question: Gig Harbor reader John Earl came across a mystery for us to solve. We love mysteries. We’ll call this one “The Case of the Missing Miles.”

traffic q&a Question: One of our reporters recently came across a curious-sounding item on the Washington State Department of Transportation’s construction project notices: “Installation of license plate camera readers on northbound I-5 in Pierce County, from Mounts Road to Steilacoom-DuPont Road.”

Question: Reader Brad Sollitto of Puyallup has a question about intersections that aren’t marked by any traffic sign or signal.

Question: Reader Lorraine Zabel wanted us to know about a bad parking experience her sister Linda Smith had at the Tacoma Dome Station. She forwarded a letter from Linda to Diamond Parking Services protesting a $25 ticket she received for violating the parking stall line. She doesn’t dispute that she parked over the line, but takes issue with how the rules are being enforced.

traffic Q&A Question: Reader Pam Paul of Tacoma wrote in with this “what’s up with that?” question:
