Pierce County emergency officials are urging 700 residents in the Orting area to evacuate their homes to avoid flooding from the Carbon and Puyallup rivers.

A county emergency management spokeswoman, Sheri Badger, told KING-TV that automated phone calls went to the residents, and sheriff’s deputies went house-to-house overnight asking residents to move to higher ground.
