The amount of rain that fell overnight Tuesday was more than the region usually sees in all of August, the National Weather Service said Wednesday.
The reporting station at Sea-Tac Airport recorded 1.33 inches of ran fell since 9:53 p.m. Tuesday. The monthly average for August is 0.88 inches.
“This is a lot of rain for summer,” said Josh Smith, a meteorologist with the Weather Service. “1.33 overnight is quite a lot.”
The rain also broke a record set in 1982, when 0.33 inches fell at Sea-Tac after 1 a.m., when the Weather Service resets its record-keeping each day. On Wednesday, 0.85 inches of rain fell at the airport after 1 a.m.
Smith said a chance of showers will linger through Thursday but then it will dry out. Temperatures will climb back into the high 70s and low 80s for the weekend.
