The state Legislature authorized $4.65 billion, including $1.6 billion from the latest gas tax increase, to construct the State Route 520 bridge across Lake Washington. Officials proudly state that $1.2 billion in toll revenue will be generated to help pay project costs. But that is only 26.32 percent of total costs.
Tacoma Narrows Bridge users have been strapped with 100 percent cost payback through tolls by the worst bond package ever sold by the state of Washington. How much of the recent gas tax increase (that we also pay) was dedicated to the Narrows Bridge? Zero.
