An otherwise pleasant Sunday afternoon on the water was marred by what I think is a potentially dangerous situation. There were dozens of novice kayakers and paddle boarders in the vicinity of the Gig Harbor lighthouse, with many loitering in the channel between the harbor and the sound.
For the many sail and motor craft attempting to navigate a narrow channel at low tide, it was like trying to navigate stairs with a cat between your feet. I don’t think any paddlers got run over, but it wasn’t from a lack of trying!
It certainly would be nice if there were an ordinance designating the channel as a “transit only” zone to make that area a little safer for everyone.
