Re: "Return nation to strength with GOP" (letter, 1-2).
By declaring the Obama response to the Islamic State half-baked is the writer suggesting a full-baked response?
Does he mean American troops on the ground, taking us back to the bad old days of the previous administration, which spent upwards of $5 trillion for two phony wars ginned up by Wall Street and the defense industry?
Should we believe that caution is necessarily a bad thing in a commander-in-chief? Should we accept that shooting from the hip and not worrying about consequences is the best approach?
Every time I see a crippled veteran, I have to wonder about the wisdom of getting us involved in Iraq and Afghanistan in the first place. Who exactly benefited from such stupidity? Certainly not the guy who was duped into defending us against a contrived enemy. And ditto the American taxpayer stuck with the bill.
Obama has his faults, but he has kept us out of another disastrous war. And one thing we can be thankful for is that, with any kind of luck, we may continue to have an improving economy sans more reckless adventurism thought up as a way to direct more tax dollars into the pockets of the rich.
