If the New England Patriots are found guilty of using low-pressure footballs against the Indianapolis Colts, then they should be treated just like the colleges are and should have several penalties enforced effective immediately. The only way to prevent such behaviors is to make the penalties so hard that nobody dares to violate them again. I suggest:
• No playoff appearances for five years including this year (put the Colts in their place), and those directly involved should be removed from the sport permanently.
• Loss of all draft picks for no less than two years, which would mean they could only get players by way of trade after the draft is completed in its entirety.
• A salary cap that would severely restrict acquisition of talented players.
• A multimillion-dollar fine such as $50 million at the very least.
That is how you put a stop to illegal behavior.
