I hope the “reckless use” of firearms includes the fools who clean their loaded weapons, have them discharge, and sometimes injure others or themselves. Will this bill also address the utter carelessness of those owners who have allowed their children (unintentional) access to guns, which resulted in tragedy?
As to who could seek the protection orders, I think “only immediate family members" is a bit too narrowly defined as it would omit other people living together such as couples or multiple roommates. These folks would likely know if their cohabitants own a weapon and any red-flag behavior changes.
I hope the loopholes get closed before this bill's final version is submitted.
