The Cohen group at Point Ruston knows how to play the game of politics and government. They have hired consultants to help grease the skids for the Point Ruston development, spent thousands on social media to control the spin and contributed thousands of dollars to local and state politicians. Those very politicians that are running to defend the Cohens and Point Ruston by creating legislation and making strong statements in the media defending the Cohens' desire to bring the Town of Ruston to its knees.
Why is The News Tribune promoting state legislators to get involved in a local permitting matter? Also, what type of precedent does this create if Tacoma had a future challenge with surrounding cities like Fife, Fircrest, University Place or Lakewood – will they just cry to folks in Olympia and pirate their way around Pierce County?
While we appreciate the cleanup efforts along Ruston Way, why are taxpayers on the hook to pay for this cleanup if the Cohens bought the property?
On a side note, I wish some of those Tacoma politicians would make those types of strong comments about fixing potholes and keeping our streets safe.
