Recently, The New York Times reported that in Colorado there is movement to make it legal for banks to let employers and employees in the pot industry use the banking system to deposit and save their paychecks and take out loan money.
The banks currently will not allow it because this brings up a federal issue: Not all states have legalized marijuana.
I think the Tacoma dispensaries, employers and employees alike, should contribute in helping this movement. If we are going to legalize part of the drug industry, we need to allow these workers full access to the banking system. Otherwise we are not truly recognizing the business, and we are denying workers the rights that so many of us enjoy.
These workers should no longer be carrying around their pay in paper bags; they should be able to have access to loans, credit cards and electronic transfers just like everyone else.
