I am absolutely appalled that Pierce County is considering offering free tickets to the U.S. Open to state lawmakers (TNT, 2-8). Why not take the 300 tickets and donate them to disadvantaged youth groups, veterans organizations or even a lottery of constituents who would like to go but can’t afford the $110 entry fee?
If the ethics committee approves this measure, we the taxpayers will pay for our elected representatives to attend a “prestigious” event. I’m a taxpayer and I don’t even like golf. I resent paying for my representative to enjoy a world-class sporting event. It’s like giving the lawmakers free tickets to the Super Bowl.
If the legislators want to attend the U.S. Open, let them buy their own tickets.
