The decision to build a new Pierce County administration building (TNT, 2-18) is one lacking in any creativity or vision. The argument that it will save money is a pipe dream.
The day after the smoke-and-mirrors "town hall" meeting, the cost went up 30 percent.
Don't worry about the current downtown location, we are told; it will be turned into the Justice Center. That is, every crime-related agency will be located just below the Hilltop and down the street from hotels and the convention center, turning Tacoma Avenue into a prison yard!
How much money will it cost to repair (oh, excuse me, "rehab") the destruction to our city as the county employee population not related to criminal "justice" is moved to the Lincoln District?
Never miss a local story.
A great opportunity to have saved a part of Tacoma similar to the University of Washington Tacoma's wonderful development has been lost. Once again the noncreative bureaucrats and ego-driven political drones have won against the community.
Suck it up, Tacoma - as usual!
