Pat McCarthy's claim that the four council members that voted to dismiss the lawsuit against Jerry Gibbs was due to "political pressure" is appalling. For a politician to claim that the people should not be heard because they assembled peacefully in protest is not only wrong but arrogant.
We elect our government officials to represent us. The Pierce County Council's decision to drop the lawsuit against a private citizen was an exercise in that principal. The people spoke, and the majority of the council understood that they needed to abide by their constituents' demands.
The rally held at the County-City Building proved that the people can, and should, be heard by their elected employees. It was a peaceful, bi-partisan rally. If we allow our elected (paid) government officials to compare the people's right to protest as "political pressure," then so be it. That's what we're here for.
Pat McCarthy is not our boss. We are her boss. She should not only apologize to Mr Gibbs, but to the good people of Pierce County that refuse to put up with her imperial attitude. McCarthy should show a little humility and gratitude to her constituents, the people that pay her inflated salary.
I hope she never holds public office again.
