It is spring, and with it will come more kittens, puppies and baby rabbits. They are a joy to behold. Everyone loves a baby animal.
But they grow up and often they will be dumped out by families who no longer want them. It happens all over Pierce County. There is a real problem in the Lakewood area and in Gig Harbor.
People claim "Oh, they will be alright, cats can hunt." That does not happen: The poor helpless creatures will either starve or be eaten by coyotes.
There is no excuse for people to dump off unwanted pets. The Pierce County Humane Society will take them. They work very hard to find new owners for the pet. There are at least eight other rescue groups in this area that will help to place unwanted animals. Look in your computer; it is easy to locate a pet rescue group.
Never miss a local story.
We have an obligation to the animals we share this earth with. If you can no longer keep your pet, give it a chance at a good life. Take the animal to a pet rescue group.
