Re: "Broadnax earns high praise, 4.7% pay raise" (TNT, 3-18).
Tacoma taxpayers had to pay for T.C. Broadnax and the Texas "Good Old Boys Club" on-the-job-training when they were all hired. Why? Because they had no experience managing a city.
Now the mayor and City Council want to give him a 4.7 percent raise, and the streets and sidewalks are not fixed. Parking in downtown Tacoma is terrible, and Pacific Avenue going south will never get fixed. The city manager says there is no money.
No politician should ever get a raise more than Social Security raises each year. In 2015, senior citizens got 1.7 percent raise, and we have to pay Medicare premiums and Medicare supplement premiums out of the raise and live on the remaining money.
No politician needs a $550 monthly car allowance, and politicians can look for parking spaces like the rest of the taxpayers or they can pay a monthly fee for parking out of their salaries.
The mayor and council members should have asked the taxpayers for an evaluation of the city manager and the "Good Old Boys Club" before any raise was given.
The mayor and the council have a difficult time remembering they work for us, the taxpayers. Next election, we need to clean house of all these career politicians and give pink slips to appointed "politicians" like the city manager.
No 4.7 percent raise for any politician in 2015.
