President Obama’s recent appeal to the people of Iran indicates his ignorance regarding foreign affairs.
More than half of Iranians are under 21 years old and are under the thumb of an extremely oppressive regime. They have no political power. Thus, by this action - coupled with his refusal to get involved in the June 2009 uprising - Obama confuses the difference between these two very different factions. This sends a profound message to those who oppose the current regime.
The results of this confusion tend to bind these two dissimilar groups together against American interests. This was documented during World War II when an OSS group parachuted into Austria in October 1944 to gather intelligence. (At that time, 5 percent of Austrians were estimated to be devout Nazis, while 80 percent were anti-Nazi.)
OSS determined: “The feeling among Austrians … was that the Allies were making no differentiation between the Austrians and the Germans, which did more to squelch budding resistance movements than the Gestapo.”
This miscalculation is not new with Obama. He doesn’t seem to have the ability to introspect following repeated evidence that his policies aren’t working in the best interests of our country.
