I am very disappointed with the Pierce County executive direction taking reserved parking spaces from potential jurors.
The county held a National Administrative Jurors Conference March 25 and 26. The conference attendees used the jurors' waiting area (Room 123), thus forcing jurors into temporary accommodations.
This was not enough. They took many of the juror parking spaces and improperly put tags on their dashboards stating they were jurors.
It was brought to the attention of garage attendants, juror administrative personnel and the executive's office with no corrective response except that their hands were tied or it was not their responsibility. Instead, jurors were made to look for available paid parking, which Pierce County refuses to reimburse.
Jurors are providing a valuable civic service and should not be treated in this way. Pierce County needs to evaluate its processes and not sacrifice the jurors who are paid a meager $10 a day plus mileage.
There was other parking available in the area, but Pierce County was not willing to adsorb the cost. Instead the jurors were stuck with parking costs while the national conference attendees could receive free parking and make Pierce County look good with conference attendees.
Not the way to go as a Pierce County taxpayer.
