I continue to be shocked at the shortsightedness of Puyallup's new city manager, Kevin Yamamoto, regarding his firing of Puyallup Public Library's fine director, Tim Wadham. Unfortunately a city manager is autonomous and answers to no one.
It's unconscionable that an individual with the vision and enthusiasm that Wadham has should be fired over such petty issues: calling a reporter on a sensationalized article, suggesting an interim solution for security at the library and joking with an overreacting employee.
During his time in Puyallup, Wadham has brought to Puyallup nationally known artists and authors, Santana drummer Michael Shrieve and juvenile sci-fi author Susan Cooper. This fall's Festival of Books will feature Anthony Doerr, author of "All the Light We Cannot See."
I've had the pleasure of working with Wadham through Friends of the Library and always found him to be a breath of fresh air for our fine library. He has a clear vision of what our library can be - a culture center.
Never miss a local story.
It is appalling that Yamamoto chose his course of action without even consulting the Library Advisory Board! Wadham must be reinstated.
