In addition to the usual fun and fireworks at Cheney Stadium, my family was exposed to a little more than we expected at the Rainiers' home opener Friday. Rhubarb the reindeer, usually a fun and kid-friendly team mascot, was shockingly inappropriate in some of his attempts to entertain the sell-out crowd.
In one skit, he raced onto the field, tore off all his clothes and then pranced around the field in nothing but a strategically placed leaf, comically evading security and baring his gifts for every boy and girl in the stadium.
In another skit, he brought his boombox onto the dugout roof, trying several different stations until he found something he could dance to: "It's getting hot in here, so take off all your clothes." To which Rhubarb gladly obliged, ripping off his tearaway pants and bouncing suggestively in his boxers from one edge of the roof to the other.
Is a streaking, stripping reindeer what we want our kids to see between innings? Come on, Rainiers, rein in the reindeer and bring safe-and-sane fun back to Cheney.
