Poor planning has greatly impacted Tacoma traffic congestion. The Pacific Avenue and Tacoma Avenue bridge closures are forcing additional traffic onto the Interstate 705 spur, which continues to be greatly impacted by the Nalley Valley/state Route 16 construction.
Was there any discussion about how the simultaneous bridge closures would prevent traffic to enter/exit downtown to and from the South Tacoma area? Traffic is at a standstill on I-705 leaving Tacoma in the evenings.
I’m not a traffic engineer, but the answer seems simple: Don't close too many similar routes of travel at the same time.
