Kudos to Monique Trudnowski! It’s not often enough that someone takes this approach. The way I read her article, she’s very politely saying that we should forget the partisanship, focus on the people’s goals, and then - like the good independent Washingtonians we are - continue to do what makes sense.
Gov. Jay Inslee’s carbon tax proposal does not focus on the people’s goals and does not make sense. It will raise prices for everyone. It will drive potentially polluting industries from the care of concerned Washingtonians to high-polluting countries like China. It will drive living-wage and union jobs from our state with nothing to show for the loss.
There are many reasonable alternatives from both sides of the aisle, but partisanship and power politics will get in the way if we’re not careful. Let’s scrap this foolishness and ask the governor to take a step back and find a better approach.
