The News Tribune continues to amaze me with its choice of stories to run on the front page.
Larry LaRue's column (5-20) about a 15-year resident of Tacoma being a big fan of David Letterman makes the front page when we have a nation and world that is in turmoil. If you want to run a human interest story, why not pick one concerning a longtime successful Tacoma or Pierce County resident who has many positive accomplishments?
Tom Names recently passed away, and he and the Names family donated $55,000 to the Tacoma Athletic Commission benefiting some of the deserving high school student athletes attending schools in Pierce County.
The Names foundation was set up as a charitable organization and was the result of Scott and Sis producing an outstanding Tacoma family. There are also many other longtime Pierce County individuals and families to choose from who have given time and effort to make this area better. Why not write about someone who has been a success story who really has some roots here and is deserving of front-page recognition?
