For more than 20 years, the West End Neighborhood Council has had little to no support from our District 1 City Council member until Anders Ibsen was elected.
Since being elected, he has attended most of our meetings; helped with cleanups; taken the lead in saving a parking lot for the VFW, Ruston Senior Center and Baltimore Park users; brings pertinent information to our members; and answers emails and questions that arise.
We find it very disturbing to watch and listen to the actions of the Tacoma City Council - with the exception of Ryan Mello - in publicly berating Ibsen. As West End residents, West End Neighborhood Council Board members and citizens of District 1, we support Ibsen - an actively engaged citizen in our neighborhood and a responsive City Council member to all.
The actions of the council are not only unprofessional, but also mean-spirited. District 1 wants someone who cares and works for us, and that would be Ibsen. We do not care about his popularity within the City Council, but we do resent the public meanness towards him, and feel Ibsen deserves an apology from those council members involved.
