Re: "Why religious leaders stick to their guns on homosexuality" (Your Voice, 6-28).
Lutheran minister Donald Heinz apparently considers himself an authority on what evangelical Christians think, believe and say around our “ghettoized campfires,” apparently referring to our gatherings and the opinions expressed there.
I was not raised a Christian, but at 21 believed the gospel message of Christ and have never strayed from it or from regular church attendance over a span of 40-plus years. In all those years I can’t recall a sermon or even a conversation that implied homosexuals should be rejected as Heinz alleges.
On the contrary, the message I have heard applies to one and all: “Repent of your sins and believe the gospel.” It’s a message that addresses the greatest need of humanity and does so without categorizing specific sins or permitting “contemporary views of human nature” to overrule biblical standards for human behavior.
