The marine resources of Puget Sound received a tremendous boost June 30 when the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced the Northwest Straits Commission will receive a $4.5 million grant to remove derelict gill nets lost or discarded in Puget Sound.
I’ve noticed that people who whine about socialized medicine are perfectly content with a socialist military.
Re: “Public schools go overseas to hire teachers, other staff” (TNT, 6-29).
I have a simple idea.
It is comforting to know that the Tacoma School Board is pleased with Superintendent Art Jarvis’ performance (editorial, 6-26). Apparently, he has managed to address some long-standing issues facing the district. However, we somehow missed these accomplishments; our son was left behind in its quest to increase all but effective learning in the schools.
Richard S. Davis (Viewpoint, 7-1) claims that a public health care option “will be priced significantly below most private plans and quickly claim market share.” It might be so successful that everyone would choose the public option and drive private plans out of the market, he worries.
Doris Jairala, a personal acquaintance, was featured on the front page because the bus service she relies on for work is being eliminated (TNT, 6-30). This is a significant issue for her because her medical condition doesn’t allow her to drive.
How do we, the people, stop government from taking complete control of our lives? It will be almost impossible.
I am sure I am not the only one who noticed the Looking Back picture Thursday. I wonder if, on July 4, 1947, people reacted to the “bathing beauties” advertising the Pacific Air Exposition like they have to the bikini-clad fireworks salesgirls in Puyallup?
Health care reform is a pivotal issue for me because our community suffers greatly from increasing costs, the need to provide services to the uninsured and a health care system under considerable stress as a result. There is also a deep personal element to my desire for meaningful health care reform that includes a robust public option.
Re: Michael Jackson estate (TNT, 7-1).
Re: “Sparks flying over Nearly Naked Fireworks” (TNT, 7-2).
Again The News Tribune is unable to report political news of national and international importance which does not fit its politically correct bias.
On July 4, fireworks will light the sky from the twilight’s last gleaming until the dawn’s early light.
