Re: “Track purchases of returning military” (letter, 11-23).
The health care reform battle is sickening. Many members of Congress adore their superlative health care plans, while constituents are dying from lack of insurance or going bankrupt from medical expenses although they actually have insurance.
Re: John McGrath’s fine article on Barry Crust (TNT, 11-22).
Re: “Expected budget shortfall grows” (TNT, 11-20).
We, as physicians and experts in breast cancer, agree with the longstanding recommendations of the American Cancer Society for screening mammography, beginning with annual exams at age 40.
Re: “Just the Senate vote on health care cost millions” (TNT, 11-22).
Hearings were held in October at City Hall to determine the future of the proposed development of Northshore Golf Course into a high-density housing project. The fate of this proposal now lies in the hands of the hearing examiner.
Re: “Hard to stay, hard to leave” (TNT, 11-16).
Re: “Woven vessels, cross-hatched people at Sandpiper” (GO Arts blog, 11-17).
What is most striking to me about the Fort Hood shooter coverage is the apparent political correctness in not discussing the suspect’s ability to purchase an assault weapon. President Obama, congressional leaders and the media all seem to have learned that it is politically incorrect to raise the issue.
Re: “Soldiers don’t serve to protect Christianity” (letter, 11-16). It’s this writer’s secular, humanist view that insults American history. My father was also a veteran of the Korean War. He fought for our American way of life, our Christian heritage and his buddies against the secular atheists of North Korea, China and the Soviets.
The Race to the Top initiative proposed by President Obama has serious implications that have not been addressed.
Re: “Christians also entitled to voice opinions” (letter, 11-17).
Re: the story about the five emaciated horses found on a logging road near Elbe (TNT, 11-20).
There are times when new blood, new visions and new constituencies need a voice and a city calls for it. Tacoma needs to consolidate the momentum of the new inclusive vision of her new mayor and bring in the most diverse City Council we have known here.
