In response to Bob Warfield’s “Halloween: Where have the good times gone?” (letter, 11-3), I have the answer.

Evidently, the good times have gone to Tacoma.

This was one of the best Halloweens ever. Although most of the kids in the neighborhood have grown up and are away at college now, we still have little ones visit due to the lure of sweet chocolate.

For starters, the weather was the best for Halloween I have seen in 20 years: mild temp, nearly full moon, clear skies, no wind or rain. Gosh, that alone makes it a good Halloween. Then, there were the trick or treaters. How fun.

As I answered the door, I told the little princesses how beautiful they were. When I knew full well who the child was, I pretended that the crown and lovely gown disguised them so well that I did not know them and they always told me, “It’s me Emily.” And as for the “bloody ones,” I pretended I did not want to reach out and put candy in their bag, as I might get blood on me. And of course they assured me it was fake, but I insisted, “Oh, no, that is real blood I can tell.” They just beamed at how well the disguise worked.

In addition to the witches and princesses, I saw dragons, Transformers, werewolves, Pocahontas, ghosts and various TV characters. Best of all the next morning, I woke up and found no litter in the neighborhood. Yes, I must say it was a very good Halloween.
