Schafer State Park
Hunt for yule log at annual event
The annual Yule Log Hunt at Schafer State Park near Elma will take place Dec. 11.
The family-friendly event begins at 1 p.m. at the park’s group camp shelter.
Children and adults can join the hunt for the Yule log, a special marked log in the park. When the log is found, visitors will join together to pull it to a fire.
The Friends of Schafer and Lake Sylvia State Parks will provide hot beverages with holiday music around a warm fire. Everyone is invited to bring cookies and join the singing.
The park’s Yule log tradition was started by community members in the mid-1950s, but ended after about 20 years. Members of the friends group and park staff revived the event seven years ago.
Schafer State Park is at 1365 West Schafer Park Road, Elma.
The event is free, but a Discover Pass will be required for day-use vehicle parking. Passes can be purchased at the park.
