17th of May Festival
What: Norwegians will gather in Ballard to again celebrate Syttende Mai, Norway’s Constitution Day. There will be music, dancing, authentic Norwegian food, kids events and a parade with more than 100 units.
When: 10 a.m.-8 p.m. May 17.
Where: Downtown Ballard.
What to do: Among the highlights is the parade that includes marching bands, drill teams, classic cars and hundreds of people dressed in traditional costumes representing Norwegian-American organizations. The parade will begin at 6 p.m. The Leif Erickson Kafe will be open 3-5:30 p.m. offering Norwegian food. It will be at 2245 NW 57th St., Seattle.
At the museum: There will be children’s activities at the Nordic Heritage Museum, which will offer free admission for the day. A free shuttle will run between the museum and the downtown area from noon-5 p.m. The museum is at 3014 NW 67th St., Seattle.
Entertainment: The featured performer will be Eva Vea of Norway. She will take the stage at Bergen Place Park at 4:30 p.m. Other acts include Ione and Brenda Bard, Leikarringer, Norwegian Male Chorus, Norwegian Ladies Chorus and Lori Ann Reihall, who will serve as the emcee for shows that begin at noon.
Admission: Free. There is a cost for some events.
